Cooking with Love: Egg Alternatives

Have you ever decided to cook something delicious, only to realize at the last moment that you forgot the most important ingredient? That happened to me once when I wanted to try baking without Mom’s help (I was feeling like a real chef!). I got so excited that I forgot the most basic thing: the eggs!

There I was, picturing the recipe already on the table, but not knowing what to do to replace those little kitchen heroes. That’s when I discovered something wonderful: you can make many delicious recipes without using eggs. And the best part? You can put more love and care into your food than ever before.

Eggs, as we know, have several roles in our recipes: they bind ingredients, add fluffiness, and provide moisture. But if you ever run out or choose not to use them, there are easy, natural, and above all, loving alternatives.

To bind ingredients:

  • Flaxseed o Chia: 1 tablespoon of flaxseed or chia seeds + 3 tablespoons of water. Let it sit for a bit until it thickens.
  • Ripe banana: ½ a mashed banana. Who knew bananas could be such kitchen heroes.
  • Applesauce: ¼ cup. Perfect for adding softness and a touch of natural sweetness.

To add fluffiness (make the mixture rise and stay airy):

  • Apple cider vinegar + baking soda: 1 tablespoon of vinegar + 1 teaspoon of baking soda. You’ll be amazed by how they bubble together!
  • Sparkling water or soda: ¼ cup. Something so simple can give your mix a wonderfully light and soft texture.

For savory recipes (like tortillas or burgers):

Flax or chia can help here too: they’re incredibly versatile!

Chickpea flour: 2 tablespoons of flour + 2 tablespoons of water.

The magic of egg-free cooking shows us that with simple, natural ingredients, we can say to ourselves: “I love myself, I take care of myself, I value myself.” Because there’s nothing more valuable than time, and we often give it to everything except ourselves.

So next time you’re out of eggs, remember there are many ways to cook with love. And if you’ve ever forgotten that important ingredient like I did, don’t worry! Just keep going, because in the kitchen, like in life, sometimes the best recipes come from little accidents.

With love,
Toñita
